American Furniture is interdisciplinary and is dedicated to advancing knowledge of furniture made or used in the Americas from the 17th century to the present.

The article elaborates on the inspiration, process and manifestation of the work Secretary with Chipmunk, a sculpture commissioned by the Chipstone Foundation in 2013.
